Module Chargers

We at Evisol believe that for a good cycle life of the traction battery, it is required to monitor and treat each battery module or cell individually. In order to achieve this, in most cases a battery charger is combined with a battery management system. We are combining a charger and a monitoring system in one device, a module charger. Each battery module or cell has its own module charger and will be charged independently. All module chargers communicate with the EVI-200 inverter and the inverter takes care of each battery module or cell being operated within the physically allowed limits.

Voltage, battery current (measured in the inverter) and  temperature of each battery module or cell is monitored during driving and the charging current of each battery module or cell is monitored during charging . The high calculating power and large data storage capacity of the inverter's microcontroller enables the implementation of several algorithms to determine the actual State of Charge (SOC) and the State of Health (SOH) of each battery module or cell. Finally, the inverter will adapt the power strategy of the vehicle to the weakest battery module or cell to protect it. In fact every battery or cell in the whole battery system is protected. Any problems within the battery system will efficiently be reported to the driver. Only the most important information will be provided to the driver. Evisol's goal is that in case of a battery system failure, the vehicle can be driven as good and as far as possible with lowest damage to the battery system. The used algorithms, which determine the SOC of each battery module or cell, will also be used to predict a possible future battery system failure. The driver will be warned and can visit a service station to prevent damage to the battery system.

Our module chargers, in cooperation with the EVI-200 inverter, will contribute to an increased cycle life of the traction battery of hybrid and electric vehicles and as a result the operational costs of these vehicles will be reduced.
